Tooth Extraction

What is a tooth extraction?

A tooth extraction is a procedure where a tooth is removed by a dentist due to infection, trauma or for any orthodontic treatments. Most extractions can be performed in the dental office using local anesthetics and dental instruments.

Why might your child need a tooth extraction?

An extraction could also be performed if a tooth is infected. Another reason to extract a tooth would be if it’s preventing a permanent tooth from erupting or if damage has been done to a permanent tooth.

What makes your child a good candidate for a tooth extraction?

If your child is experiencing pain or discomfort due to dental infection, trauma or in need of an orthodontic extraction he/she may need extraction.

What happens during the procedure for a tooth extraction?

When you and your child arrive at the office of Dr. Simi Abraham for extraction, your child will usually be given nitrous oxide through a mask. This will relax your child. Numbing gel along with local anesthetic will be administered and the tooth will be loosened and removed. If the tooth is broken or hasn’t erupted from the gums, then an incision will usually need to be made. Bleeding will be controlled and appropriate home care instructions will be given to you.

If you believe that your child might have a tooth that needs to be extracted, contact our office in Carrollton so that we can set up an appointment.
